HLGRA Monthly Meeting

Notice of Regular Meeting of February 8, 2025

The meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Ocean Gate Ministries, 13443 Ocean Gate Avenue, Hawthorne, CA 90250

LEARN FROM AN EXPERT HOW TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE BAD LAWS COMING OUT OF SACRAMENTO!!

The Hawthorne Lawndale Gardena Republican Assembly (HLGRA) is proud to again present, as our trainer, Arlene Wohlgemuth, former 10-year member of the Texas House of Representatives and Executive Director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation. She will be conducting a training session from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The training will show us how to identify bills being proposed in the California legislature, most of which do not comport with Conservative principles, how to track those bills, and how to voice our opinion at a time in the legislative process when it can make a difference. Arlene's bio and photo are attached to this notice.

IS IT BAD ENOUGH YET? THE DISASTROUS POLICIES IN CALIFORNIA HAVE LED TO THE FIRE CATASTROPHE WE HAVE JUST WITNESSED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA!

What we are seeing play out as a disastrous fire catastrophe that has taken at least twenty-eight lives and leveled 17,000 structures in Los Angeles County, is the result of policy failures from Sacramento to the City of Los Angeles. As citizens of Los Angeles County, these are some questions to which we need answers:

  1. WHY HAS THE STATE FAILED TO CLEAN UP BRUSH IN WILDFIRE AREAS?

  2. WHY DID GOVERNOR NEWSOM DISMANTLE 4 DAMS IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA?

  3. WHY DID GOVERNOR NEWSOM REFUSE TO SIGN A WATER DECLARATION PROPOSED BY PRESIDENT TRUMP IN 2019 THAT WOULD HAVE ALLOWED MILLIONS OF GALLONS OF WATER TO FLOW FROM THE SNOW MELT IN THE NORTH INTO MANY PARTS OF CALIFORNIA?

  4. WHY WAS THE PACIFIC PALISADES RESERVOIR EMPTY AND CLOSED FOR REPAIR, RESULTING IN EMPTY FIRE HYDRANTS WHEN THE FIRE BROKE OUT?

  5. WHY DOES THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES HAVE FEWER FIRE STATIONS THAN IN 1960 EVEN THOUGH THE POPULATION HAS DOUBLED?

CLICK HERE TO JOIN HLGRA OR RENEW YOUR HLGRA MEMBERSHIP!!

This is an invitation to join the Hawthorne Lawndale Gardena Republican Assembly (HLGRA). We are a growing chapter of the California Republican Assembly (CRA), having just been formed in March, 2023. We are working to inform and educate the public about Republican philosophy, beliefs and principles. Our mission includes recruiting, endorsing and electing well-qualified Republican candidates for public office from Hawthorne, Lawndale, and Gardena. Candidates for all public offices are encouraged to speak at our meetings. We also welcome as members, patriots from throughout the Los Angeles County area.

It's easy to join or renew. First join the California Republican Assembly ("CRA") by signing up on the CRA website, using this link: https://cra-membership.wildapricot.org/Sys/PublicProfile/57063379 Click "Join Us" Hawthorne-Lawndale-Gardena Republican Assembly and pay a $25 membership fee.

OUR OWN FAYE JOHNSON, SECETARY AND CO-FOUNDER OF HLGRA, HAS WON THE ELECTION FOR COUNCILMEMBER OF HAWTHORNE! CONGRATULATIONS, FAYE!

We will be continuing our PRECINCT WALKING and VOTER REGISTRATION programs. Precinct walking allows us to meet the voters in our own neighborhood and engage them with issues that affect them directly, such as safety, dense housing, and homelessness. This activity will continue to be done on a regular basis in 2025. Our Precinct Walks were well-received last year. Walking and meeting voters is our best chance to FLIP SEATS! It is also an important tool to inform Republicans about issues and candidates. If you want to go Precinct Walking with us, please email HLGRA Vice-President Dan Reid to get your walk sheets and details about the walk plan that day: danreid369@gmail.com.

The Legal War Between CALIFORNIA and TRUMP!

SUSAN SHELLEY, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE HOWARD JARVIS TAXPAYER'S ASSOCIATION, will discuss how California's Governor Gavin Newsom, plans to use the courts to block President-Elect Trump from implementing his agenda in California. The lawsuits will involve the following issues:

1. California's air quality waiver program is a provision of the Clean Air Act (CAA) that allows the state to request a waiver from federal preemption of its state-level emissions regulations. The EPA must grant the waiver before California can enforce its rules. California is expected to sue the federal government to allow it to maintain its waiver.

2. President-Elect Trump is expected to push for voter ID laws, all mail balloting by request only, and one-day voting in any election which includes a federal office. Newsom will fight these proposed laws in California courts.

3. As a "Sanctuary State," Newsom has vowed that California will refuse to allow local law enforcement to share information with federal immigration agents or hand over immigrants in their custody. He has promised to set up a "structure" to resist mass deportation. This is setting up a legal collision course between California and the Trump administration.
